In our one-on-one private workshops you will have the full attention of our cake artist Jessica. Under her watchful eye  you will learn to navigate the world Swiss meringue buttercream in a relaxed environment where you are encouraged to ask as many questions as you like.

Date & time: pre-selected date that suits both parties for a full-day in the Take A Bite kitchen

Skill level: Beginner to intermediate

The listing price of BSD440 is subject to change and would depend on the structure of the day, if you are wanting us to customize the course outline a fair amount more than what has been listed below.

Basic course outline:

  • The basics about buttercream and why we love Swiss meringue buttercream

  • Cake decorating equipment & tools

  • Cake design & time planning

  • Swiss Meringue Buttercream (SMBC) demonstration (we will show you how to make your own at home but will supply frosting to use on the day)

  • Colouring buttercream with gel and powdered colours

  • Stack and fill a cake with sponges and frosting provided

  • Frost your cake with SMBC and achieve a smooth look

  • Applying frosting to achieve a textured buttercream look

  • Achieving sharp edges on your cake

  • Tiering and doweling a two tiered cake

  • Make your own chocolate decoration to apply onto your cake

  • Learn how to style with florals

  • Working with styrofoam tiers

*The above is the basic course outline and can be streamlined to create your own unique experience based off of what you would like to learn.

What will be provided?

  • Cake decorating equipment and tools, cake sponges, frosting, cake decorations and an apron (these are yours to use for the day but please leave it behind at the end of the class)

  • Tea and coffee to get you started with a snack break about half-way through the day.

You will take home:

  • A booklet with theory, recipes and resource list

  • Your beautifully frosted and decorated cake/s

What to wear?

We will be supplying a full­-length apron but wear comfy clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting full of frosting.
